Before you build, know if you have a market for your product. "Build it and they will come" may not apply. Also remember you may be competing with the big box stores who may undercharge on plants just so they can get you in the door to buy pots, hoses, fertilizer, etc.

Still, if you find a niche, for example a special type plant or something landscapers in your area use, the continue on. (A friend grows ornamental grasses and native restoration grasses for landscapers and soil reclamation companies).

Most of the small scale commercial greenhouses around me sell bedding and vegetable plants. The idea is to get your crop in, up and out the door as quickly as possible. Then they shut down, they are not 12 month operations.

A year round operation is something to strive for, but not for beginners!!

Your greenhouse must be energy efficent. New technologies have about run glass and fiberglass houses off, especially for the beginner. Some type of poly house is in your future.

Heating and cooling can eat you alive!

Read, read and read more. Universities offer degrees in greenhouse management. Maybe you can find old text books with the second hand book dealers.

We bought our greenhouse from a Minnesota company. http://www.julianaamerica.com/contact_us.html
It is 10x12 feet, perfect for personal use. There are plans available for purchase also. You should run into some end of season specials right now.
As far as profit, check for a local farmer markets to sell veggies/flower plants or actual fruit. Another alternative is canning items, people love homemade items and will pay for them.
It is simply a hobby for me, a passion I enjoy!

greenhouses are very expensive, if you want it for profit, search the market for cheaper materials, also inquire producers of the materials needed and compare prices before purchase.
