The original Linux doesn't work anymore, so I want to reinstall windows XP professional to my laptop. I set the BIOS to boot from CD, but anyway it seems like worked. However, after the screen asked for press any key to boot from CD and I press the key, the screen turned to black without any instruction. I was sure that the XP disk is in the optical dirve, and it ran for few seconds and it stopped. I waited for about 2 hrs(patient...), it was still keeping that way.
disk is brand new... I brought my laptop last year.
Does anyone know what should I try next?

Is it a GENUINE XP CD, not a copy/pirated one, if so it should simply boot.

If it's a MANUFACTURERS recovery disc, it MIGHT need a boot floppy to work, check with the manufacturer for advice.
