This is the most difficult question ever posed, IMHO.
My own views have varied wildly over the years as I have considered it from different angles.
My best guess is that the question is literally unanswerable so long as one confines one's self to ONE body and ONE soul -- because the answer isn't to be found at the level of the individual. The answer is to be found at the level of the whole planetary ecosystem, which generates both our insides and our outsides are part of itself.

Thomas Aquinas postulated that the body does not so much contain the soul, but the soul contains the body. As such, the soul represents the totality of the person, rather than merely being a part of the person.

The soul is immortal, while the body is mortal. We are just in this body (this form) now --- the body is the tool of the soul, to carry out what is within the soul.

the soul is attached to the body in a subconscious way.connected through the eyes to the inner mind.becoming the whole being,which is inside our body.this is the way i see it.

soul is the effect of neurotransmitters and axons firing in the brain -- so when the brain is no longer functioning neither is the soul. soul is a concept that exists in the minds of the people that know you and is the part of you they carry on with them for the rest of their lives when you are deceased.
