Because if it was green, you wouldn't know where to stop mowing.
Sorry, stupid, I know. Someone said it to me once long ago, and it's still the first thing that pops into my head.
For a real answer, from http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/en/kids/misrsky/misr_sky.shtml
"Sunlight reaches Earth's atmosphere and is scattered in all directions by all the gases and particles in the air. Blue light is scattered in all directions by the tiny molecules of air in Earth's atmosphere. Blue is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time."

Reflection of the water color in seas and oceans, actually no, it is water that reflects the colors of the sky and water in seas and oceans looks blue. The sky is blue because...MYSTERY! No wait, it is the blue color that is in sun light the one with the longest wavelength is able to travel and spread more than other colors through the water particles in the atmosphere and make the skies blue and you can't see in the space blue sky because it is only the earth that has atmosphere
Hope this helps.

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.
However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.
As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white.

The gases and the air particles flowing on earths atmospheres, once the sun is high up makes this a blue sky also which makes the ocean blue.

The sky is not really blue. It is the sun's light bouncing off of water molecules in the earth's atmosphere.

Because the sky is 80% nitrogen and nitrogen absorbs every color in the rainbow except blue. That was easy.

A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colors because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight.
The white light from the sun is a mixture of all colors of the rainbow. This was demonstrated by Isaac Newton, who used a prism to separate the different colors and so form a spectrum. The colors of light are distinguished by their different wavelengths. The visible part of the spectrum ranges from red light with a wavelength of about 720 nm, to violet with a wavelength of about 380 nm, with orange, yellow, green, blue and indigo between. The three different types of color receptors in the retina of the human eye respond most strongly to red, green and blue wavelengths, giving us our color vision.

It's the way that the sun interacts with the atmosphere when you see the sky as multi-colored you its hitting the atmosphere at a very acute angle on the horizon.

because of nitrogen (it's about 70% in the air, and that's why we see the sky as blue)
