A la memoire
Des Soldats et Marias
morts pour la patrie
souvenir francais
1904
in the background there is a building, maybe a church with 2 domes and a tower where a clock should be.
Can anyone please tell me where the memorial is and what does it commerorate
Many thanks

I googled a website in French based on what you said, and then I translated the text. From what I could tell, I thought your picture was of a World War I memorial. 1904 is too early however, so it must be to commemorate soldiers from another war or soldiers who died for their county in general.

Your text seems to roughly translate into something like "With the memory Of the Soldiers and Married dead for the fatherland memory French 1904"

I also found reference to some monuments with similar text, however not the same one you mentioned. Here is one of them:

No idea i'm afraid - if no-one gets back to you, try the imperial war museum, they are amazing when it comes to stuff like that. If they can't answer your question, they'll put you in touch with someone who can! Best of luck.

It should be noted that the Franco-Prussian war took place not long before this monument was raised. Hope this helps.

could it be 'soldats et marins'?
They were fighting in the Magreb round about that time, I think.
