A lady has an expensive round oak table. She wants to find the exact center, but she doesn't want to mark it (that means no cutting, writing, or taking apart). How can she find the center?

Look underneath. The leg is in the exact center!

If the table has 4 legs instead of a pedestal, it's easy--take 2 pieces of string slightly longer than the table and tie each end to the legs across from each other (diagonally). Where the 2 strings meet will be the exact center. If it's a 4 footed pedestal, use the same technique, but tie the strings around the feet of the pedestal. (the problem with some of the other techniques above is that you can't be sure you are on the exact radius or diameter of the table when you measure them).

If it is a pedestel table, look underneath or place tablecloth on top & draw away. If it has an 4 legs stretch a piece of string from 2 of the legs that are not adjacent to each other & the stretch another piece of string from the remaining 2 legs. The 2 pieces of string cross at the exact center of the table, of a perfectly round table.

I know you say this is a trick question but I think there is a way. Measure the circumference of the table. Divide that number by pi; the number you get from this will be the diameter. 1/2 of the diameter = the radius which will get you 1/2 way across the table which would be the center.

Take a tape measure, and go from one edge to the opposite edge (straight across). Take the overall diameter and divide by two. On the tape measure, this will be the exact center. This will only work, if the table is, indeed, really round.

to do it easily the lady can cut a strip of fabric the diameter of the table, fold the cloth in half, place on one edge of the table and where it ends will be the center. This will work even before tape measures were invented, and would not scratch the table.

HELLO a tape measure, just divide the diameter by 2. plus normally the table is split in the middle so people can take out or put in a leaf. But anyways with a tape measure you can find the middle of something..

Get a round table cloth of the same size as the table top, put it on the table, then fold in half, then again into a quarter. The corner of the quarter fold will be at the center of the table.

If she doesn't want to mark it, then she probably doesn't want to put anything on top of it, so why would she care where the center is???

Measure the circumference, divide by pi (22/7) and take the square root of the answer. That is the radius and measuring from the outside of the table on a right angle to a ruler held against it for the radius gives the exact centre.

If infact the table is a true perfect round, just measure with a yard stick and divide in half for the center point.
