I myself bought an 8 GB iPhone the 2nd day it came out and after hearing today that the 8 GB will be $200 cheaper, I feel like just yelling out expletives to Steve Jobs.

OK, I guess I got screwed because I'm an early adopter. But come on, $200 in 2 months! Not even the PS3 went down that quickly! It feels like Steve Jobs made a bet with his Apple insiders and somehow Jobs lost the bet and agreed to lower the price down, just to spite people like me.

Me too...I bought a 4 GB 4 days after it came out...I was ready to email a very angry email to Jobs until I heard today that they were issuing 100$ store credit refunds (and when I couldn't find an apple support email) - see http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/.

I still feel very much abused, and can't help feel that this was all part of the plan from the day they engineered the phone. 100$ store credit doesn't even begin to make up the 200$ difference - I don't expect them to shell out 200 real money to every customer, but 200 in store credit would only cost them around 80 bucks...

I'm going to think twice about buying from apple again.

I can deal with a price cut in the $50 range in November to prepare for the Holiday season. I can't deal with a $200 drop 1 month after I bought (imagine if I'd bought 15-day before yesterday).

The fact remains that I do enjoy being an early adopter, but not to the tune of $50/week. That's a phone bill.

Apple has irreversibly damaged their brand. They've always commanded a premium for the innovation. The iPhone wasn't "just another smartphone." What smartphone has an iPod AND full-featured webbrowser AND Google Maps AND camera...

These events certainly give me pause to buy Apple ever again.

I think its funny, they got enough suckers to hand them an extra $200 and now they are going for a more reasonable mainstream price of $399 to see how many more people will make Apple rich. I'd be mad if I were you too, you probably only thought it would drop $100 in September, this is beyond the normal as you stated.

Me too! I went to the Apple Store Support chat line to find out what the deal was and the respondent - Russell - was an arrogant punk. They couldn't have cared less. It's things like this that almost killed Apple the first time - looks like they've not learned their lesson

That's the price one pays for being an "early adopter!"

i think it's due in a large part to the sales in that first month... it was way lower than apple had projected. they were like oh ****! i have to say, i saw the price drop coming, but figured it would be more around december or january.
