Agricultural problems came first. The U.K. did not have dust bowls like Oklahoma and Kansas in the U.S. or similar problems in Central Europe. Since the U.K. was dependent on imported food it suffered because there was less to import.
The banking systems were not as closely linked as they are now, but economic problems are contagious. The U.K. suffered because other countries could not afford it's exports and business capital was in short supply.
War and preparation for war gets much credit for ending the Depression but it was also a predictable business cycle swing.
