Do I need a cervix or can this go when I get my partial hysterectomy? So many things to decide. I have read where they tell you that you should try to do everything you can to keep it.

I am having the partial hysterectomy because I have a few very large fibroids, one of which 7.1cm is larger than my uterus itself and my uterus is now twice as large as it should be. No cancer as far as I know.

It would depend upon why you're having a hysterectomy whether or not the cervical neck and face could be preserved. More often than not the doctors will preserve it as long as you're not excising because of cancer (i.e., fibroids, massive bleeding, etc).

Don't forget though that if do keep your cervix, you'll still need to get your paps. Cervical cancer can still occur unless that portion of the organ is removed as well.

This is something that you need to discuss with your surgeon ... and tell him/her that you'd prefer to keep the cervical neck and face if at all possible.
