Be objective, dont waffle. Get straight to the point. Try to include a little humour in your speach, but not too much as to make it seem informal. You could start off by addressing your audience, i.e Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be talking to you today about cars. The motorcar was invented in...by... and so on. Remember though, include both facts and opinions, and try not to stare into your speech as you read it as this will muffle your voice. Finally, try not to talk in a monotone voice, as a bored audience will not listen/appreciate the hard work you have put into your speech.

Try looking through some of the speeches of important people like the presidents to see how they started theirs. Some of them started out like this: "My fellow Americans..." "Four score and seven years ago..." "Today is a day of infamy....." etc. Also, even the Scriptures are full of speeches. Paul gave many of them and they were called Epistles but they all started with a statement of purpose which gets the listeners attention. A good speech starts like the title of a book. It has to sum up the enitre book without saying anything to give it away. A good example of that is the "Left Behind" Series. Two words make you really want to read that book to see just what or who is 'left behind.' The start of a speech needs to be an 'eye opener' of a statement. It will make all the difference in the world as to whether the audience listens to the rest of it or not.

Why NOT ask a question in the beginning of a speech---Ronald Reagan did all the time and he was klnown as the "GREAT COMMUNICATOR".? You want to speak on a certain topic or prove a point on a certain topic then you could ask a question and then give your viewpoints on it in the speech... for example.. as the question WHO RIGHT NOW WOULD WIN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION if VOTING TOOK PLACE TODAY? then, give your reasons why you think the person you feel will win WILL WIN... If your subject is a really serious subject, you do NOT want to throw in any jokes into your speech... but keep it as short as possible with all the points MADE so that you don't BORE the audience... Pick a speech subject you are PASSIONATE about and do the research....
