I am running a cartridge filter using a hayward horse and a half to pump the water. This is what was recommended when the pool was set up. The pump is brand new and keeps the water flowing consistently except when the filter gets clogged and turns green then i pull the filter and pressure wash it and put it back in then it runs fine again. The biggest downfall is this pool was down for a year with no maintenece. That is why it is where it is now.

You may have an algae called yellow algae. I had this one time in our pool. There is a product on the market that you use that coincides with the shock called Yellow-rid that works rather well. If you have a pool supply store near you that tests samples you may want to take them a sample of the water to see what is happening.

Take a water sample to a pool store before you waste money on chemicals that will not help. There are many algaes that will not show up on a home tester.
