I live in a highrise apt building, and the windows all have metal frames. I face eastward, and when the sun hits it in the morning I get a bunch of loud cracking noises that goes on until noon. They're non-opening windows, so is there anything I can do about it? I asked building maintenance, and they said that it was just part of the building and they couldn't help...

The frames are probably aluminum. Aluminum is notorious for expansion and contraction issues caused by different temperatures.

Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done about it.

Expansion and contraction! I'm afraid there's nothing you can do about this, it's part of the "Ghost" of the building. I've seen some that have howling noises from the stairwell and the elevator shafts. All building have something, usually they're called "ghosts"
