Alien vs Predator (2004) is rated PG-13 for violence, language, horror images, slime and gore.
Alien vs Predator: Requiem (2007) I don't believe has been officially rated yet. The first teaser trailer was to be shown on July 27, 2007 at the San Diego ComicCon, but was withdrawn after convention officials prohibited the screening of any R-rated footage. The restriction was brought about after some members of the audience were reportedly offended by the nude hotel fight scene in 'Borat', which was shown at the 2006 convention prior to its theatrical release.

The original was PG-13. Alien vs. Predator 2 is coming out in December, but I don't think it's rated yet.

The first movie, Aliens vs. Predator was rated PG-13, but I'm thinking you're inquiring about the sequel (Aliens vs Predator: Requiem), which is rated R.
Did you happen to watch the movie trailer?
http://www.avp-r.com
You have to put in your date of birth to verify your age. Watch it for yourself.
The preview says "for mature audiences only," before showing the 3-minute trailer, and you'll see why. It is officially rated R.
I intend on watching it. The first movie was okay, but wasn't as gruesome as its original movies. This one looks promising, in terms of gore, that is. And I'm pretty sure the F-Bomb has been dropped plenty of times in the movie.
Oddly enough, it is released Christmas Day of this year.
You can also find the trailer on YouTube.
^^ Happy Viewing.

Well, it could possibly be because of the violence in it, and as far as I remember honestly, Alien Vs. Predator was not rated "R" it was rated PG-13. When it came to DVD a second unrated edition was released if thats what your inquiring about? The reason that is unrated is because it has much more violence than the PG-13 one.

It's rated "r" for "rediculous"
I thought it was going to kick butt but instead it was really cheesy. Predator would never let a human follow in tow, or let one help. He's Predator, for pete's sake! Predator needs no one but Predator!

The 'Rotten Tomatoes' site says its rated PG-13 for "violence, language, horror images, slime and gore", not R.
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/alien_vs_predator/
And yes it does kind of suck, so for me the 'R' is for 'regrets paying for movie ticket'.

I think it has to do with the sex scenes.
Or maybe the violence. One can never tell.
