I would say yes they live life to the fullest and smell the roses along the way. I'm not sure they are happier but they do the things that others want to do and can't or don't because of jobs or such. If I knew I had 1 yr to live, you can bet I'd be taking trips, eating what I wanted, and doing things I wanted to do and the heck with the money that I was trying to save for retirement.

I believe that is the key: "seem" happier.
Billions of people around the globe have a limited life expectancy; check them out to see how happy they are.
However, if you mean poor people seem happier than the rich, I would say that they are certainly just as happy as the rich, because the rich are so greedy. (By "rich" I mean what most Americans would call "the middle class". Above them are the wealthy...)

My husband has leukemia, We pray that he has a long time. but we are realists at the same time. For him, who ran a business, a lot of pressure is off . No more working so hard. We are closer than ever, he knows I love him dearly, and I have a chance to let him know it. Friends and family are visiting often. We don't know how long he has, but we are enjoying life more.

Depends on situations...others who knew that they have limited life expentancy react in two different ways...they might accept it and decides to enjoy their life to the fullest while they are alive...thinking there's no tomorrow to think about and might as well be happy now and enjoy while it last.... others may not be able to accept it...struggling to accept it and dying so alone and dissppointed, asking God, why me?..and so they die while trying to save their life....
i have seen them and witness in their dying...hard and painful as it may seem...those people who doesn't have limited expentancy, failed to value what life they have and still unhappy and discontented with their lives...they fail to enjoy life to its fullest and failed to see the meaning of how it is to be alive and well.....but to others who has seen how is life lost and how valuable it is to others who still wants to live, realizes the true meaning of what life is and live happier indeed....in every waking moments of our lives...we see its meaning...we are thankful and happy to be alive and well and living life to its fullest......

I would suggest that you spend a little time, working in a hospice for terminally ill people, before asking a question like this.
