the book is $77 and it's already USED. i am taking 3 classes, so all the three books will sum up to about $300. my question is, if i borrow the book of my classmates and then type it on a web blog, will it be agaist the law even if i mention the author's name, ISBN, publisher, year and title? --------- i am not on financial aid, grants, or anything. i pay everything in school from my own pocket and i'm working 70 hours a week with only $8/hr and go to school for 30 more hours. i barely sleep. the school do not want to grant me anything because i can work. i tried for two consecutive years to get in FAFS, but they think i am making enough. and also, i am not that intelligent to be a scholar. please help.

It is not illegal for you to borrow a book to use or even to make notes from the book.

However, if you copy the text and make it available on the internet without the consent of the author -- then that is illegal.

Copying small extracts of a book to support an argument that you are developing may be considered fair use. In this case, you will have to attribute the quotation (authors' name, year of publication, title, publisher etc.)

Anything more than that would definately be a violation of copyright law, unless you have express permission to do so. It is still illegal, even if you buy the book yourself, rather than borrow it from a friend. The fact that you attribute the copied text is not important - unauthorised copying is technically illegal, because nobody would pay to buy textbooks if they were available for free in your blog. The fact that textbooks can be expensive, and your being overworked and underpaid is not really relevant to this situation.

scan the chapters you need and leave it at that. it is illegal to post the book, yes. it is not illegal to borrow it.

you are wasting valuable study time, though. go to one of the cheap sites and get older editions of any books you can- sometimes this is a savings of over 50 bucks per book. or, if you are comfortable with it, share the book. find out if it is on reserve in the library. good luck!

Wow... If you type the whole book out... and post on a web blog for anyone to use it... I would have to say that, it probably would be copyright infringement. Since you did not pay for it, and you have means of looking it up up... Kind of like... your friend has a great cd that you want, but dont have the money for... so you ask them to make you a copy of that cd.... that technically is illigal... unless... LOL it is a 'back-up' copy for them that you are holding on to.
