Birth control doesn't make you gain weight. The hormonal changes give you cravings and make you tired so you don't want to be active. If you have enough willpower, you won't gain weight. But, like the other person said, a low dose form will have fewer side effects and therefore, fewer hormonal changes. You can try that.

estrogen is THE fat storing hormone. this is why at puberty (this hormone level rises) women start gaining getting more curvy in the hips/boobs. birth control is designed to raise estrogen levels to a certain extent so the body thinks its pregnant and won't release any eggs. this means your testosterone levels plummet which is what maintains your muscle tissue (the more muscle tissue you have the more calories your burn even at rest!) so there can be a shift in body composition. so birth control doesn't necessarily MAKE you gain weight but it affects your hormone levels making it easier to do if you start letting yourself go. i've been on the stuff for 10 years and have always stayed thin because i take care of myself. try getting on a low dose pill to reduce this effect.

Try talking to your ob/gyn about this. If he/she feels that the one prescribed is the best, you can seek another opinion. there are any number of birth control options available now. Take a look at webmd on the internet, it can help knowing what kinds of questions you should be asking your doc in the first place and never be afraid to ask about what your options are. Remember, it's your body, your choice, your decision.

Yes. Abstinence does not cause weight gain. Nor do condoms plus spermicide. Both of the forgoing also protect from STDs, which is really important. Nor do diaphrams plus spermicide cause weight gain, although this last one does not protect you from STDs.

no birth control is supposed to make you gain weight unless it is worng prescribed.
If you want no side effects the mirena IUD has almost no side effects, it almost supresses your period, and it is as efective as being sterilized. And no gain weight of course due to it´s very low dose of hormones.
On the contrar on the ill you may gain or lose weight it deoends on how your body reacts to the pill, if it doens´t suit you, you can change your pill as many times as you doctor prescribes it; till you find one that suits you.

Good luck! ;D

Try a low hormone like ortha-tricyclin low. I was on Yasmin for a month and I didn't gain weight, but I was sick all the time.

I was on Marvelon. I lost weight, and really slimed down. The only side effect was - terrible mood swings, and emotional break downs. If you're sanity(and the sanity of those around you) is important to you, i wouldn't recommend it! lol...
