Aleister Crowley (the self-proclaimed wickedest man in the world) beat you to it.
He wrote a novella about that very thing:
"The Testament of Magdalen Blair paints a particularly gruesome picture of what happens to human beings after they die. Indeed it is so nasty that it has been described in the Penguin Encyclopaedia of Horror & Supernatural as "one of the most horrible stories ever written."

i died for 4 1/2 minutes during a heart attack about 5 years ago, when i was out i could see and hear everything going on in the room, it felt like nothing i can describe, no sorry, no doubts, no fear, just absolute bliss. it was as if i was sitting up on my elbows looking right into the doctors eyes, when he hit me with the jump starter things the 3rd time i came back and when i opened my eyes it startled him because i was looking directly into his eyes. feel free to contact me if yu wanna know more about it..and for the guy who said your only dead when your brain dead "is" brain dead, my doctor told me i died.. i pretty much believe him since he's a doctor and your not...

You would not be that conscious of your state. The first reflex westerners have is to think we would be a disincarnated Cartesian mind, but modern psychology shows the human brain does not work like that.
Without access to the outside world, your mind would quickly revert to a self-referential state in which you would be quite unconscious of yourself as disembodied. Dreams, disconnected thoughts, etc... would fill your mind. You would plunge in a state resembling sleep.

thats impossable cause your brain and senses work together. and without your senses your is brain dead. thats when you are like a mad man and the street. we some time afraid of dying but there nothing to it cause when you die you go to heaven/hell. and your spirit walk's and your memories live on in friend/familes minds.

As the saying goes, we are actually "spiritual/non material beings" having, for a time, a physical experience. When you "die", you move up a dimension or two, or more if you're really "lucky", and continue on without the material "portion" :))
Sounds good to me :))

If this were true, I would eventually slip into insanity.
But since even the brain is eaten by the bugs and worms, I don't think this is the case.
Thanks for playing, though. Here's a lovely copy of the home version of our game!

this q reminds me of an alfred hitchcock hour episode where I think the character was steve mcqueen and he gets in a paralyzing carwreck and they cannot detect a pulse so they put him in the morgue and his thoughts are going " no no! I'm not dead!" "help me!"
... it would be pretty creepy if our brain was still active after death
