i want to be an actress in movies but it always seems so difficult to make it in england as all the main movies are in america. it took me a whole year just to pluck up the courage to tell my mum i wanted an agent but she still doesnt seem supportive. how can i achieve my ambition without the support of my family and without contacts to get me started.

Depending on your age and where you live, start out in local theatre in order to build your acting skills. Have you had any acting classes? If they're available in your area, take them. You'll need some good headshots and the best thing to do is to get an extra part in a movie or television show - are you near Manchester where Coronation Street is filmed (I think it's Manchester), go to the studio and apply for the role of an extra. You might also try for commercial roles which are often cast in open auditions. Once you have one acting credits - whether local or not, you can start shopping agents. NEVER go with an agent who requires up front money from you - a good agent will make money from booking jobs for you. Good luck....and keep in mind, you may have to wait until you're old enough to pursue a career without your mom's permission and many actors don't make much money - only the huge ones do.

until you are old enough to sign contracts you will need your mum's permission to work as an actor. Start in school plays, then community theatre and church theatre, then save up and take an acting class, then create a resume and headshot and try to get an agent when you are 18 It takes years of hard work to become an actor.

Many of the reigning actors and actresses have gone to acting school and paid their way through it with waiting tables, etc.

Indeed, *MOST* actors cannot pay their way with their acting and must take on another job to make ends meet. Only a micropercentile can actually get rich off of it.

So, your waiting tables to pay for acting school will be good experience for waiting tables while you're trying to get into shows.

It's next to impossible even WITH the support of your parents and contacts. Without either it's impossible. Just have fun acting in school for now.

You need acting experience, you don't just get an agent and go! Have you taken any acting classes, done any plays/acting? Even any modeling? If not then you are kidding yourself, you will get nowhere!
