As of right now he doesn't have a contract, nor he is listed with the NHLPA as a training camp invitee.

So, my guess is that picking him at all would be a wasted move.

Thanks for the link
I still have to wonder why no contract is on file, nor is anything filed with the NHLPA.

News of him signing a contract with the Wings came out quite a few months ago. It was a one year contract worth $850 thousand if he plays in the NHL, and $75 thousand if he plays in the minors, although he is allowed to go back to Russia if he is in the minors for more than 3 weeks. He arrived in Detroit earlier this week and and had his first informal practice yesterday.

As for fantasy hockey, your better off drafting other people since there is not guarantee he will even make the team. Ive already done 4 drafts this year and not one person has signed him. I recommend seeing how training camp and the preseason workout for him, and if things are looking good for him, just add him as a free agent. If he makes the team, there is a really good chance he will be on a line with Datsyuk, so his number should be pretty good. Im going to wait and see how he does in his first couple regular season games before trying to get him on any of my teams though.

He is definitely a good sleeper pick. I believe if it wasn't for his near fatal accident in 2003, he'd probably be skating with the likes of Zetterberg and Datsyuk by now. Nevertheless, the Wings have ONE forward spot open to fill and all signs are pointing towards to Grigorenko to take it easily. He actually arrived today to skate with the veterens before training camp starts. His potential is easily a top 6 forward, but keep in mind that Detroit likes to bring their rookies along real slowly. I'm guessing he's pretty quiet in the first half of the season, but come midseason, he may be opening plenty of eyes like Stastny did last season at the halfway point with Colorado.

*EDIT* - He did sign a 1 year contract. The contract also had a stipulation that says if he isn't on an NHL team roster by Nov.1, he can go back to Russia.

--- I believe it was an entry level 2-way contract. Lemme try to dig it up for you.

ESPN reports that Igor resigned for a one-year contract.

I'd like to see a link too.

It's a violation of the current CBA to sign a player and not announce the signing (and I know Ken Holland well enough to know he wouldn't do that).
