My hair is a very dark brown, with a red tint in the sun, almost black eyes, but a very light complection. I'm curious as to what eyeshadow, liners would be the most flattering? I know to avoid pinks and blues, but from personal experience, what would look best?

Skin tone is a key consideration. You want makeup colors that match your skin tone. Here's how to determine yours:

Warm skin tone:
1. Look at inner wrist - veins will appear green.
2. Gold jewelry is more flattering than silver jewelry.

Cool skin tone:
1. Look at inner wrist - veins will appear blue.
2. Silver jewelry is more flattering.

If you have a warm tone - consider dark navy, deep coffee/chocolate brown, brick reds & nude pinks.

If you have a cool tone- consider sapphire blue & berries (reds & pinks w/ a blue undertone).

Since you have a reddish tint in your hair avoid - reds and browns w/ a strong yellow or orange undertone. These may make you look sallow.

I suggest trying out black eyeliner w/ a shimmery champagne eye shadow & black mascara for evening.

For a day time look, a deep navy, intense eggplant or smoky gray eyeliner tight against the upper lash line only.

You may want to experiment w/ dark slate green eyeliner & different kinds of green eyeshadows for a fashion forward look.

Plum eye shadows would be really pretty. Neutral taupe shadows would add some sophistication w/o competing w/ your naturally dramatic coloring.

I have very dark brown eyes which are basically black. And incredibly light skin and light brown hair so they don't go !

People have always told that that with brown eyes you should go for purples, reds, golds and browns.

But as my fair skin gives me more of a blue-eyed persons look I find the absolute best colours for me are: light and dark blues, greys and blacks and even some greens.

Try these out as I think they might work for you too !

But I have a feeling that purple would also look excellent with your complextion. But just try out shades until you find ones you're happy with as everyone's different.

Good luck ! xx

If you want bold, use black or dark charcoal grays. Dark brown is flattering on most everyone and lavender or purples are pretty with dark eyes and will be softer with fair skin.

i have incredibly dark brown eyes and a light complexion as well and when i use a lot of black eyeliner they get even darker...if that's a good thing i don't know. light brown generally looks awful on me, grey looks fine but not the best. really really dark brown, almost as dark as my eyes, looks pretty good. really really dark greyish-blue shadow (wet'n'wild mega eyes trio) applied as liner was really striking and looked pretty good. i haven't had too much experience with shadow, but shimmery light brown highlighter looked pretty good.

I think some nice greens would look phenomenal.
