How can I put a Word document on my website?

I can't seem to get a link to my document up on my site. I have tried and I have my friends try to open it on their computer and they can't. Does it matter that I have Vista and they don't? Is that the problem?

If you can, post the code for the web page here. If you have a website on the Internet and your document is on your computer, it won't work. You have to put your document where the web server can get it any time someone clicks the link.

However, on some of my clients' websites, I found that, for some of their customers, the customers found that:
(1) In some releases of Internet Explorer, the Word document opens up in an Internet Explorer window while,
(2) In some cases, the Word document opens up in a separate Word window, and sometimes, the browser won't let Word open up on its own! Depends on the person's "security" settings! So, you may have to check with their "security" settings!

And, at any rate, warn them, that once the Word document opens up, if it's in a browser, then
(1) if it opened in a browser window, use the Back button to get back to the web page they were looking at, or
(2) if it opened in its own Word window, then they should be able to close the Word window and have the browser still sitting there waiting for them...

you first need to save it on a file sharing website. not just on your computer. linking on to "my documents" will not make any file downloadable in other computers.
