Years ago, this was called "The Dirty Dozens," and was indeed a creative art. Now it's generally referred to as "Yo Mama," and there's even a cable TV show making it a contest. I saw it at a friend's house once and simply could not believe they put such dirty language on TV!

Hate to break it to you but it's not just teenagers. My 40-something year old brother, co-author of a college level computer science textbook, can dish insults better than anyone else on the planet.

An example from decades ago was when he said to me "Sis, the Bible says your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit but the way you eat, you've turned yours into the Astrodome."

One good thing that I've learned from him is that it's only an insult if you let it be. I remember one time when I called him an idiot, he looked at me confusedly and said "You say that as if it's a bad thing." I've used that line many a time myself since then. No matter what someone calls me, I can take the "sting" out of it by looking at them calmly and uttering those famous words "You say that like it's a bad thing."

Not only is it an art form, it is a TV show. Have you ever seen Yo Momma on MTV? They search the best trash talkers in the city to exchange insults. The winner gets $1000 "cash money". It's hilarious.
