Mostly nice weather and a great wealth of things to do. Also you get the most amount of ethnicities here.
Must warn you though. We have a movie star for a governor and although the minumum wage is $7.50 and going to $8 next year, the cost of living is high. Just depends on where in California you want to live. We have ghettos too. Lots of cities have bad neighborhoods. Watch out for them.

Only the positives? depending on where you go- there are big cities, So jobs available, restaurants, concerts etc. all the good and the bad of a big city. But there is a lot of rural life too. I live in a area where there are a lot of avocado groves so it is very green. Small town halfway between L.A. And San Diego.10 miles from the beach, near two large lakes, 8 miles from the nearest mall. Heaven

Actually, it varies depending on which part of the state you want to move to. Since most people move to either the San Francisco Bay or Los Angeles areas, I'll assume you do too.
1. Weather. No snow in winter, and no sticky humid summers. Extreme temperatures are rare in either direction...only infrequently does the thermometer go above 95 or below 45 degrees.
2. Liberality. You can basically lead any kind of lifestyle you choose or be any race and not be ostracized. You can be gay, straight, bisexual, or trans-gendered and it's ok. You can wear business suits, jeans and T-shirts or torn jackets and a bunch of piercings and still be accepted. You can date interracially, not at all, or many at once.
3. Health-conscious. You can find all sorts of healthy places to eat, whether restaurants or grocery stores, organically grown food or fruits and veggies normally native to other countries.
4. Culturally diverse. There are concentrations of Asians, Hispanics, African Americans, Caucasians, Pacific Islanders, Islam, and any other race all found in the same general areas. Consequently, besides the food businesses mentioned above, there are myriad other businesses that cater to any ethnic group you like...art shops, drug stores, acupuncturists, herb stores, zen stores, and even sex stores are all commonplace in the state.
5. Beaches. Plenty of great ones to visit, catering to all tastes. There are large and small ones, isolated coves and great stretches of sand, both rocky and flat coastlines, some beaches with nothing around for miles and others packed with shops and restaurants. Many are clothing optional and still family-friendly.
6. Land variety. Whether you want to ski the mountain slopes, hike in the woods, swim on the coast, climb a mountain, canoe on the river, enjoy a wide-open field, go camping, or enjoy the bustle of the city, there is a part of the state somewhere that you can go to do that.
7. Things to see. Yosemite National Park, Disneyland, Historic San Francisco, Hearst Castle, Sea World, myriad museums, Six Flags Parks, water slide parks...whatever day amusement you like, you can find nearby.

I moved to northern CA and have never regretted one minute of it. The weather is great, the food is awesome, the wine flows freely, the shopping is excellent, people are nice, lots of cultural events. Wages are higher than where I used to live. I can grow jasmine, a lemon tree, and my own herbs year round. I feel safe walking on the streets. Neighbors aren't nosy. There's actually public transportation.
The only downside of course is the cost of living. Rent is the biggest one.

Hmm, when I was younger I used to live in northern california, and I remeber my parents hated it and it was no dream for me either. So I can't really think of any positives except for the beaches which aren't all they are cracked up to be anyway. It was very expensive there. It's too crowded and just not worth it. There was also some other negatives I can't really remember at the moment.

Visit first before you move here. I lived here as a kid and returned as an adult to live.
Here are some pros and cons:
CONS:
1. You pay for everything here; parks, parking your car, lakes, gas is expensive, housing prices are ridiculous...etc
2. traffic
3. Hard to find any open land anywhere anymore, everything is neighborhoods and houses and more houses.
4. public transportation sucks, unless you live within a big city.
5. People are pretty rude most of the time.
6. Considered one of the worst places for public education (if you have kids you have to send them to private schools, which cost more $$$).
PROS;
1. Pretty dog friendly here, some of the best beaches are dog parks.
2. weather is great
3. lots of pretty places here parks, lakes, mountains (you have to pay to see them all though).
4. some great colleges
5. Good Chinese food
All in all, I would only recommend moving here if you have money to waste, it's a pretty state but you pay for it's beauty.

California is larger than many countries. The north is very different from the south. You will have to be more specific.
I moved out of Los Angeles 20 years ago and now live in Chico. They are so different that there is no comparison.

It's nice. There are a ton of positives. The only negatives are the cost, and some areas can be rather rough.
What did you want to know specifically?

the warmth i great. you can surf in the summer, snowboard in the winter, hike, do any outdoor activity imaginable, go to LA and see your fav band play, possibly see some random celeb you never planned on meeting. but i don't care about that. if you're attempting to get away from a small town life this is the place to go. it can be expensive though. good luck.
