Here's my reason::
I can agree with the notion that the Yankees were once a classy club. That all came to a stop in the Steinbrenner era. Now many of the other fans feel like their team is playing against a stacked deck. When the Yankees win, the win was bought and not earned. When they lose, it goes to prove that money can't buy everything. That's why rooting against the Yankees is so much fun. That's why they are going down again this year. I have more respect for the teams like the Red Sox, Angels, Cardinals, White Sox, Marlins, etc because they win the WS with pure talent, desire, and hard work. Not their wallet. Are us Yankee haters just jealous?? No. We can pick whatever team we want to root for. And I'll root for the Devil Rays before I root for the Yankees (they just took 2 of 3 right?).
Can I get an AMEN!
So, what's your reason??

The Yankees are like heavy metal music -- it's not the thing itself that is so annoying, it's the sort of people it attracts.

And how about those 4 world series championships and The Yankees making the playoffs every season since then, all under George?

May be you don't know this, but sports is also a business. So if a businessman has the money to spend to win, then it is his God Given right. He is not asking all the other teams to not spend. It is not the Yankees fault that other teams don't have enough resources to get the best players out there. And it is not like other teams have 0 payroll. Mets spend 120 million. How many world series did they win in the last 10 years? true it is less than what the yankees spend, but I can guarantee you if they had the money that the Yankees have, they would buy the players. that is the nature of business, and dont blame it on the owner if you fail to understand how things work. being from a small city, you need to understand that new York is different than other small markets. 200 million is chump change here, and money is no object when you play in a city as expensive as New York.
when you have money, and no one is stopping you from spending it, then blame the people who are not stopping the spender. dont blame the spender.

and you contradicted yourself. you said you are not jealous of the Yankees, but you also said that because they buy players and spend soo much, rooting against them is fun. That means you are not a real fan of baseball, let alone of a team. That is plain jealousy, rooting for someone who spends money, or something that is expensive.

Hey player why don't you check out the salaries of some of those clubs the years they won. Marlins? You do know they sold all their players the year after they won (both times). In a few years they will pull the wallets out and stack their lineup like they tend to do. The last team that won the World Series, while being in the middle of the team salary, sold all their players for a large amount of money afterwards. So come on now, they were all young but worth a lot of money.

In 2006, the Red Sox were number 2 in salary, the Angels 3, the White Sox 4....the Cardinals are almost in the middle at 11. And I already touched on the Marlins.

So ultimately your arguments are...well basically retarded. How did those teams win with talent and desire, but all had the highest salaries?

Just because you have issues with Steinbrenner doesn't mean you can throw a blanket over the entire team. There are many players on the Yankees with a lot of class. People like you keep beating a dead horse via the money issue. All teams including the classless Red Sox are spending fortunes trying to win. To single out the Yankees all of the time just shows how ignorant you are.

People dislike the Yankees because they've won so much in the past. Over 20 championships? That's sick! That's about once every 4 or 5 years on average. It's easy to see why that would get stale pretty quick. Also, the Yankees spend like there is no tomorrow. Come on, what other team on planet earth could ever afford Clemens, A-Rod, Giambi, Jeter, Mussina, Posada, Damon, Rivera, AND Abreu? Oh yeah, that's right, NOBODY! So naturally, fans of other teams are jealous when the free agent that would potentially save their franchise gets scooped up by a big market team. There really isn't anything that the Yankees did intentionally to bring about such loathing, but they have to expect it when they get big names off the market almost annually.

When you spend that much, why not just buy the WS trophy, then you don't have to waste 165 games playing for it. I am sure that Georgie will do just that after the yankees fail to make the playoffs this year. Their pitching staff is terrible, and the rocket was never the answer. The only way I would root for the yankees was if every player on the red sox got traded to the yankees, and then the yankees switched their name to the red sox. Then, yes, I would root for the red sox, who are TECHNIQUALLY the yankees.

Jon F is an idiot.
The Sox of course acquired players from other teams. Thats a stupid obvious point to make. They cant farm them all. BUT they got most of those players at a steal. Yes as of late they have been buying more and giving out bigger salaries, but its a business as well as a sport.
I hate the Yankees because they feel so entitled. They have a huge team and a seemingly bottomless pit of $$. BUT most of all I hate the Yankee fans

I have hated the Yankees since 1961. Need I say more? I don't need a REAL reason. I put the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Michigan Wolverines in the same category. Oh, and the Los Angeles Lakers. And the Nashville Predators.

What you say is untrue, Pure Talent? How many players are left from the 04 roster on the sox?

They did not Keep their team intact, no they went out and bought more players, While the Yankees have more players from their 04 roster still trying to win with their talent.

How much home grown talent did the red sox have when they won in 04, name one. (arroyo)

It is fun to root against the yankees, its harder to deal with the fans who only root for LAUNDRY.
