I know I was marked with a 'high IQ'(don't ask, I was never told. DUH) when I was in 2nd, and was(and am) placed in a "gifted and talented" program in 7th, but WHY is it called "gifted"? It's not a present! No one GAVE it to you, so why is it called that? It makes no sense what so ever to me, but then I can be literal minded sometimes

People who coined the term "gifted" were Christian and attributed the natural ability of a person who far exceeds the normal perameters of their peers as having received a special "gift" from God during the formation in the womb, as no one else could enter the womb and change a chlid (modern times now dictate otherwise) from the typical or ordinary way of being.

Whatever you call it, cherish it. Not only are you unique (like everyone else) but you're natural ability is atypically better!

God gave the gift of wisdom to man. You have received a bit more of the gift. Therefore you are gifted. If you want to be politically correct you have been gifted with wisdom through experiences and nurturing. Therefore you have been gifted.

EDIT

You do not necessarily inherit being smart. Nuturing just means the way you were raised. its both nature and nurture that makes you who you are. you could have a great brain to use and no teacher whould that still make you gifted? yes because you have the great brain. but you are not classifed as gifted because you have not been taught anything.

If you know anoth about science and genes you inherit a lot of things from your parents such as looks, brains, etc. You inherited the intellegence of one of your parents by the sounds of it and that a gift but not a intentional gift but it was still a gift from one of your parents so you're gifted.

Your higher than normal intelligence needed a name simpler to say than "higher than normal intelligence." So gifted was chosen.

It doesn't matter if you don't understand why.... just go with the flow and accept that your were "gifted" with a higher than normal ability.
