Those franchise owners that "pop in and out" once a week or so are usually the ones that own several stores and have the money to hire competent managers and crews. Before they can take the "time off," they have to spend countless hours managing their francises until the staff has been trained enouth and the owner has confidence to let the store run itself.

When you think of the money it costs, you can use one example to keep things in perspective. A franchise owner can, either manage the operation of a single store himself, or, PAY a manger.(or two or three, since no one wants to work day and night, seven days a week) Think about what the salaries would be for a manager, night manager, and a weekend manager. That adds up to a lot of money.

That comes out of the owner's pocket.

It's not hard to own anything as long as you have the money to buy it. MacDonald's franchises cost a ton of money.

If you think you can buy a restaurant franchise and be on vacation all the time, good luck to you. You'll come back from one of your trips and find that the whole company was stolen right out from under your.

Smart business people keep a little better eye on their businesses. Most successful restaurant people work a ton of hours.

Well, depends on what you mean by hard. Until you get established, you probably wouldn't be able to afford hiring someone to run it, so yes you'd have to be there every day. Even if you hire a manager, you'd need to be there a lot at least for awhile to be sure they are doing their job.

And of course, you'd need to have a lot of money up front to buy a franchise for McDonalds or Subway, and get up and running.

franchising cost mucho dinerro. if you are interested in a restaurant think about it.... time consuming. i would suggest getting a job at one before you buy or open so you know the takes. my family has owned a bbq place and it took all of us working 7 days a week sometimes 14 hours a day.....
