Although i am a mother of 5 kids, all grown up now, my daughter is due to have her first baby and they have said if it has'nt come by next thusday they will do a sweep on her. What the heck is a sweep. I know you can take tablets to induce or they break the waters, but a sweep is new to me, and my daughter has'nt a clue. She thought that i would know for sure.

They sweep out the mucas plug... it doesn't hurt... but it is a natural way to help start the induction. It may or may not induce labor... but it will help. A good friend of mine had it done and she went into labor the next day... so best of luck!

It is also called "Stripping of Membranes" The doctor or midwife does an examination and slides a finger up between the amniotic sac and the uterus. The procedure is not always effective. Do some research as there are other options. Good luck and congratulations! Sophie

it's a cervical sweep the doctor or midwife will usually insert two fingers into the vagina to the neck of the womb and gently moves her fingers around to aggitate the neck of the womb slighty the whole process lasts about 5 mins but it doen't always work so fingers crossed

Why are the fiddling around with mother nature? The baby will come when it is ready. Mucous plug is there to keep out germs/infections. Oh, I get it, it's more CONVENIENT for the doctors.....
