Republicans have been cashing in on a campaign of hate, fear and hysteria against gay people for decades--spare us the denials. Complaining about it now is just theater of the absurd. The simple fact is Republicans are being consumed by the hate monster they've created. The irony would be amusing had it not hurt so many people.

I don't know if they are being consumed (we should be that lucky) but they are definitely drowning in their hypocrisy. Did you see Specter suggesting Craig should fight this thing and not resign? The irony is delicious, there is no way around that, and as soon as they begin to recover from one gay scandal (Foley to Haggard to Craig) another one pops up. Their "moral value" flag waving against gays has indeed hurt millions of people, but that would be their last concern.

They are the party of intolerance and hypocrisy these days, on top of being the party of corruption and secrecy. It's amazing to me that so many of them refuse to admit how badly the Republican Party has been damaged and continues to experience further damage as it rolls along toward the election. From Bush's White House to bathroom restrooms, the perception of Republican corruption and hypocrisy is destroying their credibility on a daily basis. But they just keep trudging along, refusing to acknowledge any of it, as though they think it's just going to fade away and fall from American's memories when they step into that voting booth. I think they've got a big shock coming in '08 and it is well deserved in my opinion.

sexual discrimination and the understanding of sexuality is the next bridge to be crossed ... and it will take some time

sexual discrimination is where racial discrimination was 40 years ago, when it was totally acceptable to treat other races as 'less than' and make repugnant comments about, and call them names ... just look at these answers and you can see that some people feel its totally ok to discriminate

of course, we still deal with racism today, but not openly the way it was in the 50's and 60's ... the same way Gay's are being alienated and objectified today, and people seem to think its different in some way

its not

What makes me laugh is the hypocrisy....

Vitter is literally applauded after getting caught hiring prostitutes, Gingrich admits having an affair during the Clinton impeachment and no one says anything, but Craig and Foley are told to resign because their indiscretions were homosexual in nature. How can you claim to be the "party of family values?" while you are sleeping around on your wife?

Craig tried to get laws targeting gays while sleeping with male pages and soliciting in bathrooms. And Ted Hagert preached against homosexuality while visiting a male prostitute (and smoking meth). There are several other cases of Bush appointees doing the same thing. The problem isn't homosexuals, it is people too afraid to admit what they are.

Go figure...

I'm always appalled and uncomprehending at how anyone--gays, middle- and lower-class people (i.e., not wealthy people), people who care about civil liberties can vote for or support a party that hates them that much. What's been very amusing is watching gay men like Jeff Gannon (gay male escort and alleged "journalist") and Matt Sanchez (former gay porn actor "Rod Majors" and alleged university student and conservative activist) attach themselves to a party that hates them so.

concern is an evolutionary habit conditioned into smart existence. with out concern, animals does not understand the drawing near risk of a predator or different aggressive animal. With too plenty concern, animals does not be able to calm down for a ideal meal with out being spooked by using something. So, to respond to your question, concern is a very organic, environmentally-conditioned reaction to stimuli.

I think most social conservatives fear gay marriage because of the children gay married people might produce. If two gay men get marry and one of them gets pregnant, you can bet on that child being gay.

No, I think Gay people have started a campaign of hatred and hysteria by claiming everyone hates them and is out to get them. Prominent gay people seem to be incredibly angry all the time. Truth is rights and attitudes towards Gay people have improved greatly. And people are accepting of them everywhere.

I hope Gay people don't become a minority that once they get more acceptance and can speak their minds freely, they become one of those angry groups with a chip on their shoulder.

I have to wonder where the people who gave all the thumbs down live. I worked in an industry that employed a HUGE amount of Gay people. Most of them are out there living amongst us happily and people around them are very accepting. And I live in the midwest and Gay people are everywhere, at the vet, chatting at the grocery store, your real estate agent -- and people here could care less. They're just people.

Gays biggest obstacle will be Dems, maybe some of them Gay themself, who want the bigotry against gays to continue so they can blame Republicans. Some minorities need a scapegoat. And the Dems, they always need a scapegoat.

I don't hate gay people, nor do any Republicans I know. You have quite a bit of hate you are carrying within yourself. There are many people who stay in the closet,in all walks of life, including Hollywood, where they still make films and gays are the buffoons or are bashed.
