You can add a second video card, or a replacement multi-headed video card to most desktop systems.

Laptops made from 03 forward have the ability to display to a monitor and the laptop screen at the same time as either the same image or a second screen.

If your current video card has two outputs (one vga and one DVI) you can get an adapter from VGA to DVI or from DVI to VGA to output to two DVI monitors, two VGA monitors, or to one of each without the adapter.

Best of luck.

You need a video card that supports two monitors. If you try splitting a Dsub-25 (VGA connection) into two, you will burn out your video card. You can split a DVI output with no repercussions into a pair of Dsub-25 (although these will give you the same output on both ends).

If you want different outputs, a video card with multiple monitor support is the way to go.

Oh, and after reading above, there is NO adapter for VGA to DVI.

Only if your computer has two outputs. You can install two graphics cards in a PC (a dual-head) and set software up to either mirror or extend your desktop across both monitors. Some laptops have a monitor port for this purpose.

yes john, but theres certain specifications you need mate
you need a graphic card that has 2 outputs such as 2 x dvi sockets or 1 x v.g.a socket and 1 x dvi socket
then its a case of connecting both your monitors to the graphic card outputs, you may need a vga to dvi converter(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=159172)to convert a dvi socket to a vga socket
then its a case of going into your graphic cards control center and locating the dual screen set up option, both the nvidia and a.t.i centers have a wizard to make it easy to configure two monitors
once its configured correctly you will find it easy to use,for example you can use windows media center on screen 2 while surfing the net on screen 1,however as this is multi-tasking you need enough memory(ram) and a decent dual core processor such as a core 2 duo or athlon x2
for a excellent article on setting up dual monitors by bob rankin go to http://askbobrankin.com/dual_monitors.html
hope this helps mate
good luck john!

Many video cards now offer "dual head" or twin monitor support. If you have VGA AND DVI you usually can do this.

If your output is only a single VGA then you'd need a new video card to do it.

Yes, you can get a video card installed in your PC that will allow the connection of two monitors or you can split the signal from one video connection to two monitors with something like this http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Display-splitter-HD-15/dp/B00083Y4B0 .
