Don't panic! Many, many women have placenta previa early in pregnancy and don't by the end. ... As the uterus grows, the placenta "migrates" with it, many times away from the cervix.
The worst case scenario is that you'll need a c-section, which is a big deal but not horrible. Take care of yourself, do a lot of reading about placenta previa, and eat a really good, balanced diet high in protein. That helps the uterus grow and be healthy, which can help the placenta migrate.
Good luck!

Since you are still early in the pregnancy, there's still an excellent chance the placenta will 'correct' itself. As the uterus grows, it will move with the uterus up and out of the way (I say move, but it's attached to the uterus and can't move on it's own). In 90% of the cases, Placenta Previa will correct.
Mine was picked up at 24 wks and at the time it was type III (covered about 70% of my cervix), by my 32nd week it covered my cervix completely. I'm now 38 weeks and it's "moved" again and it's now at type II (only covers 50% of the cervix). Even so, I'm still on pelvic rest (no sex) and will have to get a c-section, since my doctor thinks 50% is still too much of a risk for vaginal birth.
Don't stress yourself too much about this, a lot of women's placenta are low in early pregnancy. Just keep following your doctor's advice and you'll do just fine.

I had placenta previa-complete-with my first pregnancy. I found out at my 18 week ultrasound so my doctor scheduled another to see where it was at 28 weeks. I had that ultrasound and my placenta had 'migrated' way to the top of my uterus. And with my last pregnancy I didnt have a problem. I think chances are really good that it will move up, your still in your first trimester....just do everything your doctor says and you should be fine. Its still scary though!!! No lifting or sex, and if you have ANY spotting or bleeding call your doctor!!! Good luck!!!

as your uterus grows the placenta will move with the growth. however if the placenta is completely covering the cervix there is a chance it will not move. in that case you have to be extremely careful throughout your entire pregnancy and may be on bedrest. you will end up having a c-section. it is hard to say what will happen. unfortunately you just have to wait it out and see what happens. try not to worry. if you do what you are told, you and your baby will be just fine.

i was diagnosed at 21-22 wks. i was put on pelvic rest and told that i would need to deliver by c-section to prevent placental abruption. as my uterus grew my placenta moved up with it. i was taken off of pelvic rest and i delivered vaginally. your dr will keep a pretty close eye on things. they will give you more ultrasounds than normal to keep checking to see if it is going to move. since you are so early on i think your chances are pretty good that it will move out of the way.

They told me I had it when I was about 17 weeks. Don't worry there is still PLENTY of time for it to move up and out of the way!! I am 23 weeks now and they are still giving me some time! Just be glad you and baby are healthy! Good Luck!
