If you want to look like a tourist, then tees and shorts. And you won't get good service at even casual restaurants. I'd say business casual is "in" now. Like chino shorts, a polo, and non-flipflop sandals. Women wear sundresses and blouses over midi-skirts. But jeans are fine for doing the tourist thing.

If you're going to be just staying in Napa proper, it's really easy to cab around. Or there's a downtown trolley that's either free or they might have changed it to fifty cents or a dollar now. The VINE buses run up and down the valley if you don't want to rent a car. But if you want to visit wineries and stuff off the beaten path, then you need a rental car. If you do need a cab though, call Black Tie Taxi. They're great, very professional, and not that expensive at all. I even have their number in my cell phone for those "nights on the town".

Skip the Wine Train. We took it a couple years ago and all you see is litter, fences, and the backs of buildings. You're just on it to eat, drink, and stumble off at the end. I'd recommend a balloon ride. Balloons Above The Valley is excellent and a fun trip. If you say you heard about it from the internet you get a discount, and another discount if you can claim a Napa address! There's lots to do here, just not after about 10 p.m. The only place I can think of is Downtown Joe's if you like dancing and loud music.

Uh, that's it for now. Email me if I can help with your trip. I live in Napa and love it!

Just light casual dress wear would be fine. Take a jacket, just in case. If you are going for the wine, there is a Wine Train that leaves from Napa and goes up the valley. Instead of using a cab I would suggest a rental car.

casual dress....shorts ,teeshirts etc are fine. you may need to upgrade a bit for "nicer" restaurants...

no, it is not easy to cab around, but you can get a driver to take you to wineries or tour bus but a rental car or bike is the best....everything is spread out except in small towns like calistoga, nearby sonoma, valley of the moon , etc...

EDIT: i'm compelled to add that i was a local & dressed for comfort...never did i receive substandard service at any restaurant, winery or spa!!!!! from rutherford, to sonoma to napa to silverado trail & everywhere else in the area --everyone is laid back at all levels of the service industries. never an issue.... have fun!!
