A young person who kills animals to watch them suffer has a big emotional problem. It has been proven time and time again that most serial killers did this as kids.
Children who are taught to hunt by a responsible hunter are taught to minimize the suffering of the animal and to use the animal for food.
I think the difference is obvious.

I think the fact that she feels horrible about it and regrets it now says a lot about your mother---it says that even though she might have been unhappy at a certain stage of her childhood, so unhappy that she could kill small animals, she has grown up into an adult who knows the difference between right and wrong, and is strong enough to admit that she made mistakes when she was too young to know any better. It's true that many serial killers killed animals when they were children, but it isn't true that every kid who was mean to an animal grows up to be a disturbed adult. There is also a pretty big difference between an 8 year old and a 13 year old being mean to an animal. Sometimes kids do things that aren't right because they are too young to know what's right, and they do things sort of as an experiment. Most of us have done things that we later recognize were wrong, but some of us never grow up enough to see what we did wrong before.

Depends on. If they are hunting for food and to help keep down the animal population I do not think they could be considered dangerous. If we did not have hunting here in Minnesota especially deer the population would grow and there would be more cases of mange. If they are hunting just for the sake of killing it may be a different story.

this was on dr. phil show the other day: this 10yr old boy was hurting his sister and mother and even hurt cats and the dog. yes there is a problem with that. that is very dangerous behavior. but hunting is not part of "hurting" an animal it is part of surviving and finding food. when kids kill or hurt animals like cats or dogs then that is another problem because we don't those animals and most of those are pets. and if the child shows no feelings when hurting the animal.

If a child kills animals with malevolence & cruelty, concern should arise.
If they deliberately torture and maim the animal then, more than likely there are going to be problems in adulthood. The kid has something wrong upstairs.
Hunting for food is normal. If for example the childs grampa takes him pheasant hunting and teaches him to clean and cook the pheasants then, this should not concern you.

well, the latter is for sport and in more cases than not are eaten by the person that killed them, the animals are GAME animals. Not cats and dogs or other domesticated animals being killed for fun...doing that is a sign of very unstable behaviour and should be dealt with quickly.

It all depends on how they kill the animal. If they are hunting, no there's not much of a problem. If they are torturing the animal, yes I would keep an eye on this youngin.

Psychologists always say that that's an early sign of a psychopath..
However, hunting is fine because some families do that...
As long as the kid doesn't like... Go up to the deer and keep shooting or something gross like that...

A child who kills animals has issues with knowing something is wrong but doing it anyway.
Adults who *legally* hunt don't think they're doing anything wrong.

That's how Jeffrey Dalmer began...really.
Killing animals how? Brutally or hunting with their dad? There is a difference there in mentality.
