I tried to last night but my wife had changed all the locks. The past seems to take on a life of its own. Things that have happened and places where we have lived and grown up take on a different quality when we look back from a distance created by time. Even when I drive by where I grew up it is like being where I have never been. You can't recapture the past, but it is fun to try, if only in our dreams.

Oh, was he ever right.
One BIG reason you can't go home again is that, during your absence, two changes have transpired: 1. You've changed; 2. "Home" has changed.
And your "memories" of what "home" was once like are almost certainly misleading, anyway - with the "good" being accentuated while the "bad" has been diminished or eliminated.
Another author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, wrote about a character named Gatsby:

"An intriguing exchange between Nick and Gatsby takes place near the end of Chapter Six: “I
wouldn’t ask too much of her,” Nick says “You can’t repeat the past.” “Can’t repeat the past?”
Gatsby cries out. “Why of course you can!”

Well, as Jay found out - you can't.

Any Christian is a born back Christian. Jesus pronounced "Ye have have been given to be born back." there isn't any such ingredient as a non born as quickly as extra Chrisian or a born back non Christian. an considerable volume of persons believe that Jimmy Carter first used the term despite the fact that if Jesus was once the 1st guy or woman to assert you'll be born as quickly as extra, (John 3:7) and that i think of particular that it have been utilized by employing others long previous to Jimmy Carter. It extremely doen't subject rely despite the fact that pondering the actuality that in case you're no longer to any extent further a born back Christian you're incredibly now no longer a Christian in any respect. this isn't any longer elective."hence if any guy be in Christ, he's a clean creature; historic concerns are surpassed away; behold all issues are strengthen into new" (2 Corinthians 5:17) If ones existence has now no longer been converted and that they are residing comparable to previous to yet "think of" in Christ, there has been no transformation and that they do no longer seem born back. while Jesus Christ is composed of stay interior a guy or woman, the flaws that they love will commerce and the flaws that they hate will replace. What Jesus cared approximately will grow to be what they care approximately. those are basically some examples of what takes place at the same time as you grow to be born as quickly as extra.i be conscious of it rather is an extremely unpopular doctrine in the present day yet keeps to be the fact none the fewer. God bless!!

As you have seen yourself, things change in our perception just by having time pass.
Every day that we live, our perception of life changes due to experiences and people. So that after a while, we have changed as well as places/people changing, that nothing seems even remotely like we remember it.
And as far as going back home, forget about it. My son just turned 18 and wanted to move back to Atlanta where he left about 3 years ago. I tried to tell him that everything would be different, but he wouldn't listen. Most of his friends have moved away and the ones that were left, were not the same as he remembered them. It only took him 2 months and he moved away from there.
It reminds me of how quickly things change when I return home for the holidays to my father's house where I spent 18 years growing up. Nothing seems the same and there is always the feeling that they still belong there but I no longer do.

Will Rogers said :
" Everyone has deep in their heart the old town or community where they first went barefoot, got their first licking, traded their first pocketknife, grew up and finally went away thinking they were too big for that burg. But that's where your heart is."

You can't go home again in the sense that it will be the same..it won't be, The house may still look the same..folks living there the same...but, nothing else will be...that old feeling will be gone, you've moved on..just left memories there
and you can revisit them anytime without going back...

Home is what you believe. Things that come up in life that are heartbreaking and unsatisfying can be linked to a memory that gives comfort and strength for whatever the problem. I believe you can always find home in your heart. My home is where I was raised for 22 years. Home is where my family is and home is where I want to live even when I am miles away. My mom and dad raised my siblings to always remember home. Its not just a house with rooms but it is the familiarity of memories and the people who love you.

He was right on the money, and most of the time the past is better in our dreams. Why spoil your own perception of reality by revisiting it?

I think he was. Life keeps moving long after we leave a place and hopefully, we leave it better than we found it but it'll still be different should we go back.
