As silly as it is....Drive.
Get your favorite three cds...put them in and drive at a desired speed down a road with lots of sights i.e. houses, colleges, shops, cows. Just seeing other peole living therelives may distract you from the problems in your own. People watching also reminds us how others are truly more screwed.
They after your drive....go to a borders (though independant coffee shops are better), buy a silly and usless magazine pick a quiet corner and read. occasionally look up and enjoy the sights and scents around you. go home , take a soak (men CAN soak) and fall asleep in a thick terrycloth towel.
Try it. You will like it.

First of all what ever is bothering you , just sit down and take a few breaths , Breath slowly , and let the junk go somewhere else that is bothering you . Then think about something good you want or need , and something you know will put you in a better mood . Then get up and start over and when something like this happens to me I just sit down and take some breaths and get myself calm down and figure out things in ease . I get myself totally out of that mood , just by looking at the sky or a lot of people take a hot bath and just relax if its possible . Call a friend and talk .

There is no "best" way, I like to see other people in extreme, near death, pain. Would that calm you down? I doubt it.
Empty your brain into a coffee can and see what is bugging it and then remove that bug. Afterwards have yourself put into a straight jacket for twenty days in a rubber room and in total darkness, with no food or water. When you come out you will see the light and know exactly where to find YOUR inner peace.

Meditate. Try to clear your mind of all desire, and of all suffering. If you succeed at this and live truly in the moment, that is one of the greatest feelings of relaxation.
