I'm probably going to get killed for this, but I will go with no longer relevant. I must use the disclaimer that all I've heard are the singles since the record after Dave Navarro, but I swear all of their singles since "Soul To Squeeze" (minus the very unsuccessful even though it was the one that I particularly liked of them post BSSM "Warped") are the same song in a new incarnation. I do respect Flea and Fruiscante's work with the Mars Volta, and I respect their longevity but they lost me a long time ago.

Although, if both was an option, I would take it. They were on top of the college radio scene for so long that they have really become true alt rock icons (particularly Flea and Anthony). Their personality is as big as their music and I think that can carry you a long way.

I think the Prof nailed it. The RHCP are no longer on the cutting edge of cool like back in the Freaky Styley days. However, they aren't completely bad as they have indeed morphed into this sort of laid-back California groove band. Sure, the loyalty is helping to keep them afloat. But on the same hand, they haven't turned into the Goo-Goo Dolls and for that alone I am forever grateful. Anthony Kiedis is a far different person from who he once was some twenty years ago, so I guess this is part of his own natural evolution.

WOW - I was preparing to answer "no longer relevant" and to get things thrown at me for it, but that seems to be the general consensus. So far. :)

Honestly, nothing of theirs has really blown me away since Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Their older stuff is where the magic truly was.

I think they are drifting like an iceberg in the ocean. The next thing worth hearing or about them will be good ole fashioned bad press. Their musical talent has always been marginal.

Stadium Arcadium angered me to no end. Album is complete garbage.

No longer relevant in my book, but there is still a huge fanbase
