no, Empathy and Sympathy are two different things. I won't wallow in the mud with people for too long, but I will for a short while, then offer ways to help out. It's what we're supposed to do. Golden Rule time...ya can give a man a fish, or teach him how to fish, or walk away. Each situation dictates one of the three.

I agree with Smorbie on this one but we all should do what we can.
We can, each of us, do in many small ways, things to make our world better. We should volunteer, we should be kind, we should be happy and help one another where we can.
If we do, the cumulative affect, is a good thing.

I don't think it's just these days.
"How can you (whatever) when there's so much suffering in this world?"
The truth is, if we let ourselves care too deeply about all of the poverty, injustice, disease, hatred, and such that exists, we'd have no time to do anything but be sad, and that's not the purpose of life.
