Is it possible to paint over butcher block countertops? Although these countertops are over 30 years old- they are in excellent condition! No stains, cuts, chips, etc. But I would like to change them. I cannot afford to replace them, so I was wondering if it is possible to paint them or something- my concern being if the paint would stick, or how long it would last with all the abuse my countertops take, also would you dare to roll out dough on that surface? Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly apppreciated!!

They are the light colored butcher block. I want to change them simply because I am tired of them, and was thinking maybe I needed a more modern look? I have lived in this house since it was brand new, so like I said, they still look brand new, but I am really tired of looking at them. I spend quite a bit of time in my kitchen!! Thanks everyone..

Do NOT paint a butcher block...if you are using it to cut and slice or cook etc, the paint will eventually chip no matter what you do to prevent it, and will get it your food.....don't do it, not a good idea.

Why don't you tell us why you want to change them? Maybe we can help you come up with a solution. Do you have pics of your kitchen? If I had butcher block countertops, I would work around them, changing other things to revive the room.

Additonally........
You can make your kitchen more modern-looking by changing your cabinets. Try painting them black which would be a nice contrast to the wood of your countertop. Change the handles/pulls of your cabinets to a more modern style.

No!!!It simply won't work!!Are they the light colored butcher block? If so,I would sand them down and put some stain on it,and wala' you will have a new countertop until you can afford to buy another one.Hopefully, you will like this idea!!Make sure you pick out the right color stain.

at Wal mart, Home depot and Lowe's they sell a product called grip it. It's like a primer you can put on countertops etc. that after it dries and cures you can paint over it to whatever color you want. You can also check countertops at home depot and lowe's because they aren't as expensive as you think and they are easy to bolt together.

in my view i does no longer advise it. reason some paints are poisonous, noticeably lead based paints & if a knife is used on the surfaces then this is certain to minimize into the paint & seem terrible. the main inexpensive & appropriate way is to thoroughly replace the bench precise. As a touch attempt going to open residences or perhaps joinery shops that have demonstration benches that they want to flick off at good purchase expenses & see if some would healthful your measurements, you may even p.c.. up a good purchase if your fortunate! or you may desire to promote that your in the marketplace for a bench precise if every person is remodelling their kitchen. or perhaps attend storage revenues the place those products ar only finding for people such as you! Cheers!!

you can paint them but even with a sealer they don't last too long because you are always sliding things across them and they will still get worn. maybe new linloeum or peel and stick tiles?

I don't think I can answer this in a way that wouldn't be insulting.

So I will just say NO!
