i have disconnected the water pipe from the softener and exposed two plastic connector which feed into the softener. they are both leaking and i want to just bypass the softener. my question is can i buy a 1' length of rubber hose and just hose clamp it over these plastic connectors to bypass the softener. will this hold up to my home's water pressure

You can do this as a temporary measure, however I would not leave it like that forever. The hose will deteriorate and eventually leak. You need to make a permanent fix using either copper or PVC, along with the appropriate connections on each side to your existing pipe. And one of those should be a union to make connection easier. And don't use galvanized pipe as was suggested above, it will eventually start to rust.

You should probably try to buy a galvanized metal pipe of the same diameter and threads that will fit the fittings from the softener and then tape the threads with Teflon tape before attaching. If the lines to the softener are not threaded, you can couple them with a rubber hose that fits tight and double clamp each side to prevent leaks---should handle the pressure ok.
