Toss it. I'm sure the Chinese are well aware of lead paint dangers and yet they jeopardized the lives of many sweet innocent little children around the world with THEIR negligence.

Pretty much every child product on the market is made in China or some other third world country. More than 99% of these products are safe, and many unsafe toys it is a flaw in the design which isn't the part of the manufacturing plant.
I know people are concerned about lead paint, however you would have to eat a LOT of lead paint. The paint would be visibly chipping off (which does happen to some toys). There are bigger lead concerns and those are water supply -which is often contaminated even before it gets to your house, and in older houses and buildings there may be lead in the pipes/solder. Garden hoses -apparently most garden hoses contain a unreal amount of lead and people fill kids pools with garden hoses, let them play in sprinklers and let them drink directly from the hose. The other concern is lead paint in houses which is going to be very old and probably breaking down into dust sized particles that you won't notice. Also obviously if you sand it or whatever it will end up everywhere.
Honestly before you toss it out I would try to find one NOT made in China. Seriously, you probably can't. And even if you did find one "Made in the USA" chances are it is only assembled here, and all the parts are manufactured elsewhere.

That's a good question. With how bad this recall has gotten, it would probably be logical to toss it. However, I started to panic just as much at first and wanted to throw everything out from china but it's impossible! Practically everything is made in china! I think anything that your child may put in his mouth that has paint throw away...or you could try and start teaching him now to stop chewing on things one might say, but being a mom of a teething 11 month old I know it's impossible. Oh and just incase you aren't already aware of this...The hard plastic toys are being painted as well, which they are also discovering high amounts of led in...so be careful with the toys you may of over looked. I think you would be ok with the kind of teether you have mentioned just be careful with the hard plastic ones. Good Luck...I know how hard it is being a mother at this day in age with all this crap going on. I drive myself nuts thinking of ways to avoid buying things from china...I just hope that this out of everything else is a good enough reason for them to start manufaturing products in our own country. Just try and breathe, there's only so much you can do. All we can do is watch out for what's being recalled and thank God for them finding out now before it's too late. You might also want to get your son tested for led poisoning just to be on the safe side..I know I'm going to. Again Good-Luck with everything.

I wouldn't let my child (if I had one) put anything made from China in their mouth.
I would throw it out, and try to find a USA made equivalent.
Read this, (scroll down to the last article of the page, it's about Chinese made teethers):
http://www.squidoo.com/protectyourfamily/
And to the people who think you're overreacting: You have obviously not been following the news in regards to Chinese made products lately! It's too big of a risk to let a baby constantly chew on something that could be so potentially dangerous to them.

I would toss it. Just for my piece of mind. Hopefully a teether would be lead free, but just in case.

Only if its made by Mattel, or its a barbie teether. Im pretty sure most of the goods coming out of china are safe, otherwise the consumer safety board wouldn't have let it by.

If it's mesh, I'm assuming that the only part that's going in her mouth is cloth, so it's probably okay. If there are any plastic pieces on it that are painted though, I would probably toss it.

if you toss away everything made in China you may as well through more than half your belongings out of the window LOL. 90% of world products are made in china. If you look at your posetions you'd be amazed of how almost all of them are made either in China or southasian countries.

If you bought another one, where do you think it will be made? Save your money and find out if the manufacturer has a problem.
