Reading through the above answers they are full of the old tired and discredited arguments in support of monarchy.

THEY BRING IN TOURISTS: The French got rid of their monarchy over two hundred years ago but tourists still flock to France to visit the Royal palaces in their droves.

WE WOULD END UP WITH SOMEONE LIKE GEORGE BUSH AS OUR PRESIDENT: Do you honestly think the British people are so stupid that they would actually vote for a cretin like George Bush to be their head of state!

Personally I would like to see the bunch of social misfits which make up the House of Windsor shown their P45s.

The best candidate by far for the UK head of state would be Michael Palin. Not only is he a genuine and decent man, but he has also proved in his 'round the world documentaries' that he would be a superb ambassador for this country.

Yes that would be verrry funny!!!!

But I don't think a lot of people are ready for the monarchy to be abolished. While it seems like a lot of people don't like the monarchy, actually most people do. Either that, or they don't care.

I am one of those people who can see both sides to the issue.
Yes, the monarchy has some good qualities and it would be weird if they weren't there. It would be VERY weird. England would not be the same.

At the same time an elected head of state is good too... then he or she can be voted in and England will be a true democracy.

I do not know which is the better idea.
Democracy is very corrupt. Just look at America.

Why on earth should we want to do something as stupid as that the Royal Family are a very great asset to this country they pay tax so therefore they contribute to the exchequer and apart from that they are also a very big tourist attraction which also brings a lot of money into the country I suggest you go back to school and learn a bit about the Monarchy of this Country

There's no reason to abolish the monarchy. They aren't doing any political harm, they bring in more money than they spend, and they embody a thousand years of history for your country. I wish I could call them my royal family! (I'm American)

Would you rather be under a Military Dictatorship? Leave the monarchy as it is. This country is GREAT just look at all the people who are trying to get here.

If you want to dress up as a Queen, there are plenty of costume shops that rent stuff out.

The monarchy stays.

There is no monarchy in Great Britian. The Queen's family is just a historical portrait of history. I for my self think we could do without them. But on the other site those old buildings, the palaces and castles they own. who would pay for the restorations?

I've been in favour of abolishing the monarchy for as long as I can remember. I wasn't allowed to join the Boy Scouts for refusing to swear allegiance to the queen.
Get rid of the lot of them, bunch of parasites!
