Ok so my bank talked me into apply for a credit card to avoid overdraft fees in my checking account. Well yesterday they cashed three checks, none of which I had the money for in my checking account. Instead of taking the money off my credit card, and there was $800 on the card, they charged me a $27 overdraft fee for each check and returned them. Now I have to pay my vet a $35 returned check fee for two checks and call a friend of mine to assure she's going to get her money from me. How should I take care of this, because I am very very mad. I want to yell and scream, but that doesn't always work.

I hate all these answers and I'll tell you why. I figured out what the problems was. I don't have a physical credit card, no plastic, I have a loan from my bank that is considered a Visa account. This account was set up by my bank for the purpose of not creating overdraft charges. Well, what they didn't tell me is two weeks after I got my card they stopped providing overage protection which they were not obligated to inform me of. It's not unusual, it's underhanded. Therefore I have cancelled all my accounts with this bank because they suck.

Why would you write out three checks if you knew you didn't have the money in your account. Why didn't you just use the credit card. I have never heard of a bank putting any overdraft charges on the credit card but maybe that is something knew.

Did they say that if you wrote a check and didn't have the money in your account, it would be automatically transferred to the credit card? That would be a highly unusual setup.

Of did they just mean that you could charge something to your credit card intead of writing a check if you didn't have the money? That sounds a lot more likely.

Possibly you misunderstood what they were saying - and they might not have said it very clearly either.

Did you call customer service about this problem? Usually if you call and talk to someone they can write a letter explaining that the checks should have cleared and they would have been placed on your credit card, if that is the way the card was set up like that. They may tell you that those checks should have been put on your card to avoid the fees. Good Luck!!!

You should definitely call customer service and explain that the reason that you got the credit card was to cover you in these situations. If they do not make it good, cancel the card. Sometimes the threat of closing an account or card can lead to good things.
