Scientists frame a HYPOTHESIS which tries to explains observations. Then they conduct an INQUIRY whether all the requirements are met. The EVIDENCE is collected from the many EXPERIMENTs conducted. The data helps them to TEST the validity of their assumption.

Seriously if you need a school-book answer its much better to study on your own.
