Helpless is being unable to do something.
Hopeless is feeling unable to do anything.
The man dangling from his ankle in the V of the tree after slipping is helpless. The person watching from an apartment a block away as the rescue goes on may be hopeless.
The people trapped in the top of the 9/11 buildings were helpless. Those of us watching on TV were hopeless, mostly.

Huh? The two words have completely different meanings.
Hopeless - –adjective
1. providing no hope; beyond optimism or hope; desperate: a hopeless case of illness
2. without hope; despairing: hopeless grief.
3. impossible to accomplish, solve, resolve, etc.: Balancing my budget is hopeless.
4. not able to learn or act, perform, or work as desired; inadequate for the purpose: As a bridge player, you're hopeless.
- i.e. when you have no more hope, either for the situation that you are in to have a positive outcome, or in general manner you have lost hope in live, that things will ever be better. You can also be referred to as BEING hopeless, in other words, incompetent.
Helpless - –adjective
1. unable to help oneself; weak or dependent: a helpless invalid.
2. deprived of strength or power; powerless; incapacitated: They were helpless with laughter.
3. affording no help.
i.e. its when you cannot do something for yourself and have to rely on others to assist you. It can also mean that you are unable or powerless to help someone else in need.
Now the worst is to be helpless and hopeless at the same time... I HOPE this helps ;)

Hopeless is when you believe in nothing your dead pretty much
Helpless your still alive and there is hope that you will make it to be helpless does not mean that all hope is lost .........
So i would rather be helpless because someone can someday help me from an outside Godly force then hopeless when I have no will to live :)))

Helpless is present tense. Hopeless is future tense.
One recognizes a situation and the other predicts the future.
Silly really. Man cannot predict the future.

Yes they stem from two different roots, Help and Hope.
Perhaps a genius inside a patent clerk remained helpless monetarily until it was recognized as Einstein.
But I am hopeless who receives a lot of help like this. :-)

it's helpless to be hopeless, but never hopeless to be helpless...
=)))))))))))))))))))))))))
once you lose hope.... no amount of care or help from others would matter.... you gave up already. it is Hope that fuels people to persevere, to try again in hope for things to get better.... but hope alone with the absence of wisdom(or acquired knowledge from a previous experience) is insufficient).. thus making one helpless if hope is taken away.
on the bright side, helpless doesnt necessariy mean hopeless. most case scenarios of helplessness are temporary, lacking an urgent mean or way to be helped(him or herself or by the help of others)
so remember, just as long as you have hope.. you are never helpless for too long....
Hope makes you wait... and Hope somebody will come to the rescue

the difference is that HELPLESS means without help, and HOPELESS means without hope - help and hope are completely different things - help comes from others, hope comes from within yourself
