I found the way that you have presented the question confusing. Do you mean find the value of the function when x = 0, in which case you get:

1/0 + 3 = 3, which is undefined because of the 1/0, or did you mean find the value of x which makes the function zero, in which case:

1/3x + 3 = 0, so

1/3x = -3, so

1 = -9x, so

-1/9 = x.

Check: 1/(3*-1/9)

=1/-1/3

= -3, so it`s correct.

Hope this helps, Twiggy.

1/3x + 3 = 0

Multiply both sides of the equation by 3

3(1/3x) + 3(3) = 3(0)

x + 9 = 0

Transpose 9

x + 9 - 9 = 0 - 9

x = - 9

- - - - - -

Check

1/3x + 3 = 0

1/3(- 9) + 3 = 0

- 9/3 + 3 = 0

- 3 + 3 = 0

0 = 0

- - - - - - -s-
