This past November 2006, we were promised by our elected officials that they would slash spending on earmarks. Here is it September 4, 2007, 9 months into their terms and what progress have we made? Here are the leading numbers according to the San Francisco Chronicle:

Diane Feinstein - $382.3 Million
John Murtha - $186 Million
Barbara Boxer - $152.5 Million
Nancy Pelosi - $141.3 Million
Obey - $96 Million
Denny Hoyer - $85.5 Million

Watchdog groups praise Democrats' efforts to rein in pork spending, which exploded over the last decade under Republican rule. But Alexander said heavy earmarking by Pelosi and other party leaders raises questions about their commitment to making deep cuts.

"It seems like they are not necessarily leading by example," she said.

How in the hell can you praise this group of politicians for cutting spending? They are raiding the treasury while they preach that they should be cutting the budget.

Because that is their motto: "You make it we spend it!" I am sick to death also about hearing about the money spent on the war. Would you have our service men and women over in Iraq without armour, food, ammunition and all their other needs not met? This group, especially Pelosi can only be praised for being traitors to the American public.

I could not get to the link you provided...but I was just curious if you bothered to check and see what kind of earmarks were being requested by Republican members of the House and Senate??? Did you ever compare the earmarks that were attributed to the Republican Congress in the years preceeding the 2006 elections? The Republicans have held the majority from 1994 to 2006. What did they accomplish in the first 9 months of their majority with a Democratic President? How much of the "Contract with America" was realized in their tenure as the majority in Congress?

Although the Democrats picked up more seats in both Houses in 2006, they did not pick up enough seats to override a Presidential veto or to get legislation passed without the support of a handful of Republicans. So what kind of deals did Feinstein, Murtha, Boxer, Pelosi, Obey, and Hoyer have to concede to the Republicans in order to receive those earmarks? The slim majority that the Democrats won in 2006 does not compare to the majority that the Republicans obtained in 1994 and yet where are their accomplishments?????????

Big deal...the Democrats are just as big a damn hypocrites as the Republicans are.
Is anybody really surprised? They're politicians...and all they care about is keeping their jobs. So they raid the treasury for just as much money for their district as they can...for really important NECESSARY things, of course...so they can go back to and tell the voters, "Look at all the pork I brought home to you!"

There is no treasury to raid. It's been emoty since the Reagan administration. Seriously though, even with the earmarks you mention, spending is much lower than it was on the Republican watch.

Because they are Democrats, and they always feel they are doing nothing wrong. I'm not saying Republicans are much better, but Democrats are for the most part holier than thou, liberal snakes. People should realize that ALL political parties are out for themselves. I don't know where the Democrats are for the working class, and Republicans are for the wealthy big business came from. The bottom line is they ALL look out after the bottom line, THEM.
