Thanks so much for sharing all of your great answers. Some great points of view!

I was just thinking....and was intrigued by the idea that there are some "primitive" cultures where lovemaking is done out in the open and there is no crime, rape, etc. Yet here in our "evolved" societies crime/rape/violence etc continue.

(And just to let you know, I don't allow my kids to see sexual stuff and I also try to protect them from seeing violence as well; at some point protecting them from both becomes unavoidable anyway......and that's when we have to teach them about it)

I think the reason is parents do what they can about protecting their children to violence as much as possible,
but when it comes to sex parents dont want to give the children the wrong impression and be too young to handle the consequences of having a baby when they are too young or mot mature enough, or catch some disease.

too much peaked interest in an immature mind is not a good thing as far as showing images of sex,...on the other hand the violence is kinda unavoidable , it's not just on t.v. it's on the streets and in the schools, it's part of life for those who have family in war zones; when kids see violence do they behave that way, not usually, it scares them which it should, hopefully making them think before they make a choice; if they were to see sex on t.v. and see the pleasure in it, I'm sure they would try to explore that pleasure, and then you would have parents knocking on your door asking you some pretty embarrassing questions or the school would be calling . sex is personal and private; violence is a world problem that everyone should be informed on for safety reasons!~♥~

Very good question! Take a star!
Its a subject I've discussed many times with people who are parents and those who are not [I myself am not].
I've never understood it. Some of the cartoons for kids as young as 4 or 5 have loads of violence in it but they are not allowed to see a breast? I can carry on and on about the double standard and warpedness of it all...
Just shows you what's important in society these days.

Not everyone allows their children to view violence on television or movies. I think it is images of sex that are more of a taboo to children, since fairytale classics such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty all have their fair amount of love.

Could be because one could be more easily tempted to falling in love or having sex, rather than into violence.
Given an option to walk into two rooms, one in which there is abundance of love and sex while in the other violence, which one would we opt for ?

i personally always monitored my childs viewing, and made sure others did also, so she wasnt exposed to the violence, even violence in childrens shows (cartoons), while i wouldnt of allowed her to view sexual acts, we did have open conversations about the subject as she was growing up, i didnt hide or ignore any subjects from her, we also had open discussions about violence and racism and sexism
but i agree that is rare, most children are allowed to view violence, in fact many children are still hit as punishment, so to me, rather then tv or movies, children experiencing violence themselves or seeing it happen to other children, is the most traumatic, and ANY hitting or spanking of children is physical assault!

What are you talking about, love and sex are two diffrent things. So yes sex should be limited just as extreme violence is limited, ratings?. But love is shown on flim all the time.

seeing violence wont make your child a criminal . but seeing sex can make your child attracted towards it and he may become obsessed with it and even start sex at way too early an age.

because we are a country with it's values in a complete mess. How is it ok to watch a man beat, shoot, stab and kill a man, but it is not ok to show a breast on TV? It just makes no sense at all.
