The manager of our apartment complex just walked into our apartment last night aroung 6. We had left a small bag an american eagle bag outside and she opened our door and sit it inside. My roomate walked out of her room and saw this. Then she heard one of these kittens we found crying in the utlity room i have very nice furniture and keep them in there till i can find them a home. She walked over there and let her out and started saying we were neglecting her by keeping her in the dark and they couldnt see. HELLO cats do see in the dark!! Anyways what would you do about this i was not there and it is in my name!!

Very few people can come into your home without your permission, eg. the police when in hot pursuit of a criminal or firefighters dealing with a fire. A landlord or his agents, can only come by appointment with you if he has a good reason, or at times specified in the contract.

Tell the manager politely but firmly where he gets off. You must stand up for your rights or lose them.

She didn't go into your apartment with any bad intent, she probably thought you dropped somehting outside and wanted to make sure it didn't get stolen.
If she has a problem with the lights being off, just assure her you'll keep the light in the utility room turned on so the kittens can properly see.
You didn't mention being evicted over having the kittens or anything. It doesn't sound like a big deal, so I wouldn't make one out of it. That's a good way to wind up evicted or annoyed until you move out.

Check with your local housing office. Here in California, a landlord needs 24 hours notice/approval before entering an apartment. Period. The only exception is in the case of an emergency. The landlord needs to know about the stray kittens, though.

Although I would have strongly objected to the manager just opening my door, it does seem she intended to be helpful with the bag. She went too far with the kittens.

At the time, you should have politely, but firmly told her not to just open your door and walk in.

Your landlord was wrong in most states. Need to check laws in your state.
However, cats cant see in the dark. They can see in very low light levels.
