No welfare, no food stamps, no corporate welfare, no farm subsidies.

Does that make me a Libertarian?

Jacob- I agree with you wholeheartedly on the States being able to fund their own programs. That would keep them smaller and more manageable, with less money just "disappearing " into thousands of obscure programs with maybe 1% of the population even knowing about them. That way "humanitarian" efforts could be agreed upon and run more like a local charity than an entitlement program. Also, if you don't like the new proposed or adopted taxed programs, you can more to a state without them, and vice versa.

Charity and babysitting should NOT be the roles of the Federal Government.

It could make you a very conservative Republican, a Libertarian, or a Constitutionalist. Regardless, it makes you very smart, very compassionate, and very cool.

You go girl!

Wow, to hear these people talk you would never believe that America got along fine without these programs for about two hundred years. To me, the ideal personality would be a Social Conservative and a fiscal libertarian.

To answer your question, that is pretty much descriptive of a Libertarian approach. You did not specify but I assume you are talking about Federal Government. There are states that also provide such programs. I have much less of a problem with states doing it on their own. At least you can move out of a state if you don't like how it is being handled.

In some ways, but do you not see the need for people to have some safety net - would you want single mothers and children laying on the streets. Or would you not want to advance our way out of dependence on foreign oil by giving subsidies to universities and companies to come up with alternative fuels more quickly.

It makes you sane. It means that you're not part of the gimme gimme gimme crowd. It means that you understand that all these programs do is make all our problems worse in the long run. They encourage everyone, individuals and businesses, both, to avoid competence and instead become dependent on government. This dependency can then be used to extend and enlarge government power without limit.

Paternalism/nannyism is just another pathway to totalitarian domination by government. It's the anaesthetized path.

So you don't believe in grants for college including the grants that our military people get for serving their country? You don't believe that children should eat if their parents are poor? You don't believe that the government should help those whose lives and homes have been destroyed by natural disasters? The farm subsidies help all of us eat even those not on welfare if our farmers don't have crops then you my dear have no vegetables or fruit to eat or juice to drink.

no, but it does say that we are somewhat on different
sides of the fence. Welfare, Wick, food stamps, and
farm subsidies have their valid purpose -- I'm against
the misuse of these programs.

Neither do I. Neither did Jefferson, Franklin, or Adams. Too bad we are outnumbered by bleeding hearts and do gooders who would never even talk to the people they champion.
