I am currently cycling a 20 gallon tank (fishless) to become the new home for one of three goldfish that live in my 30 gallon tank. I am debating which goldfish to move into the new tank once it is ready. I was going to move the "bully" of the tank in since he is the biggest and tend to nip on the others. However, I was also thinking about putting the smallest in the tank by himself since the others put up with the bully well and I thought that he could use the extra food etc. Any ideas? Thanks!

Give the other two fish a break, and put the bully by himself. I wouldn't ever put a smaller fish in with him, though. Once a bully, always a bully.
The exception would be if your other fish are also picking on the smallest one. If he has multiple fish tormenting him, the only thing to do would be to get him out of there. Also, if you are wanting to add some new fish, they might get along with him better. Good luck!

I would move the bully, why not give it it's own tank? Then you know that anything else you put in there will have to be a little bit tougher.
It's possible that the fish is bullying because of a lack of space, it's own tank would probably calm it down a little.

Put in the smallest, but don't leave him in there by himself. Gold fish do need other fish to be happy, so get another few of them.

go with the smallest first becaus if you put the bullie in the tank first he will think he owns the tank and be proctive over his terrtorie.
