Because...if the action were not "scripted"....some of the wrestlers really would be getting hurt. And the wrestlers...whether you realize it or not...are the main "assets" that the WWE has...especially the popular wrestlers, whether they're good guys or bad guys.
If you just stage "pretend" matches, you'll be able to keep doing that year after year. But if you stage actual matches, with wrestlers continuously getting hurt and having to recuperate for six months at a time....pretty soon you've got nobody to wrestle.

Like many have said already, the moves they do are extremely dangerous, especially top rope maneuvers. The WWE is scripted and people still get hurt in the wrestling ring. Imagine how much worse it would be:
HHH's knees are bad enough
Undertaker's injuries all been stacking up
Rey Mysterio and his legs
Imagine how much worse it would be if wrestling was not scripted and the wrestlers didn't lead each other through matches.

Goodfella, you know both ROH and TNA are scripted, too, right?

WWE puts on plays where the good guy gets challenged and threatened and beaten up by the bad guy, then triumphs in the end. Nothing wrong with that. Spongebob Squarepants episodes work with the same principle. Young people need these morality plays as simplified teachings of life. It is not a sporting event. I am slightly disturbed that so many so-called adults are also watching and cheering and participating in these spectacles, but then they probably did not have mothers who told them fairy tales when they were 4 years old. That's when I learned about good and evil and perseverance and loyalty and such.
Just relax and enjoy the drama and cheer for your favorites.

Pro wrestling is entertainment, not sports. The matches are all alike. The really fun part is the soap opera interviews and all. The scripts are all designed to get more people into arenas and buying pay-per views. It's for money.

The scripts are used mainly for safety reasons.
The people that do this may be the BEST stuntmen ever, but they also do not want to intentionally put someone out of their job.
Accidents do still happen, it is inevitable, but having an idea of what is going on, makes it safer.

because if it didnt have a script it would be, like, boxing. professional wrestling is a soap opera for men and other people who find violence entertaining. if it wasn't scripted, what would they do besides fight, then talk trash and get jumped. it'd be like chaos. give it a chance again, its really not that bad now.

But all the "unpredictability" throughout the history of professional wrestling has been pre-planned and that will never change. A well-rounded programme cannot be left entirely to chance. WCW found that out the hard way.

Anyone who thinks TNA and ROH are not pre-planned either are just fooling themselves :)

No.....there would be murder then and alot of ppl going to jail.
They need script. If they didn't have it it wouldn't be called professional wrestling. It would be called un-professional brawl.

i some what agree......it has its pros and cons......it would be more exciting and unpredictable......but there again they have to know what is going on to prevent serious injuries.....they could make the scripts more believable.....such as veteran wrestlers kids feuding cause their fathers did....that is my thoughts on this
